Therapy and Teletherapy - How Does It Work?

Teletherapy is a convenient and effective way to receive therapy and counseling.  It has been around for years and has become standard in mental healthcare.  Teletherapy is delivered through an online video platform, similar to Skype or Zoom.  Rest assured — Oki Counseling uses professional software to ensure that our conversations are private, secure, and confidential (i.e., HIPPA compliant).  And it’s easy to use – we’ll send you simple instructions to get started.

You and your therapist will talk with one another in real time, and work on finding ways to get you feeling better and living your best.  Basically, you’ll do all the same helpful talking, listening, and therapeutic work that you’d do if you were in the same room together.  The great news is research indicates that teletherapy is as effective as traditional face-to-face therapy.

If you’ve never had therapy before, it’s natural to feel cautious and even unsure.  You’ve gotten this far, and that takes courage!  When you work with your therapist, you won’t be pressured to discuss anything you don’t want to.  It’s your therapist’s job to listen, offer support, and use their expertise to help find effective options that work well for you.

At Oki Counseling, we’re skilled with a variety of therapeutic approaches — specifically, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other mindfulness-based approaches that have been proven to work.

Your privacy, security, and confidentiality are very important to us.  We follow all relevant laws and pay good money to protect all your information (per HIPPA regulations).

Individual teletherapy sessions last about 60 minutes.  Couples therapy sessions last about 90 minutes.  Please contact us for more information about our standard session rates.  For those with financial hardship, reduced rate sessions may be available.  We can also provide information to assist with insurance reimbursement.

Each client is treated with courtesy, respect, and impartiality. Oki Counseling does not discriminate against any individual on the basis of race, ethnicity, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, national origin, or source of payment.
